This article describes the use of 21st century new literacies and instructional practices in the classroom. Currently, educators are discovering and using new literacies to teach students. This article defines and explores new literacies and fan fiction. It defines and gives a history of fan fiction as well as examines how it can be used in a classroom setting. Moreover, the piece presents how new literacies can motivate and engage students. This approach to literacy education provides teachers with a creative and timely way to promote learning in the classroom.
