Outside of the Box Peer-to-Peer Tech Training Strategies
Peer-to-peer training is powerful. This session details several professional learning approaches: teacher-lead workshops, drop-in labs, teacher-to-teacher tech talks, a badged self-paced PD course and an online course composed of administrators' best practices. We'll also describe a student-to-student tech orientation.

Laura Briggs

Bio: Laura Briggs is the past president of the ISTE Mobile Learning Network and a teacher/staff developer for Loudoun County Public Schools in northern Virginia. She is the founder and director of STAR Summer Camp, a Science, Technology and Robotics camp. She has served on the board of directors of the Virginia Society for Technology in Education and continues as the ISTE 2016 Mobile Learning Playground coordinator. A VSTE Island in Second Life facilitator, Briggs organizes and presents face to face and virtually as a staff developer and has presented at many state and national conferences, including VSTE, ISTE, STEMx, EdWeb, GaETC, VDOE Leadership Conferences and ETLO Online Institutes. She is considered a leader in her district at incorporating makerspaces, mobile, and games in innovative learning environments.


Dayna Laur

Bio: Dayna Laur is a veteran educator, educational consultant, and author who specializes in authentic learning experiences, technology integration, and project-based learning. Her classroom innovations have been featured by Edutopia and Learning Sciences International. She currently focuses on empowering educators and their learners, both nationally and internationally, through transformative authentic learning experiences. She is the author of Authentic Learning Experiences: A Real-World Approach to Project Based Learning and, most recently, Developing Natural Curiosity: 5 Strategies for the PreK-3 Classroom . Brandon Lutz

Bio: After 14 years in the education profession, Brandon’s role continues to evolve. Following years as a K to 8 technology teacher, Brandon put his experience to work as an Instructional Technology Coach for the School District of Philadelphia. Most recently, Brandon began his role as the Technology Applications Specialist for the Bucks County Intermediate Unit. Here, he works with administrators, technology directors and teachers to integrate technology. In addition to work, Brandon currently serves as the Vice-President of PAECT and is always on the lookout for the latest and greatest web tools to include in his popular 60in60® presentation.


Cheryl Lemke

Bio: Cheryl Lemke is President and CEO of the Metiri Group. Ms. Lemke specializes in K20 educational technology and 21st Century Learning. she is well known for her expertise and experience in systems thinking, from the policy level—with governors, legislators, superintendents, business leaders—to the school and classroom—with administrators, teachers, students, and parents. She brings over 25 years of experience in the public sector—as a teacher, technology director, policy expert at a national educational laboratory, executive director at a foundation, and cabinet member at a state education agency.


Camilla Gagliolo

Bio: Camilla Gagliolo holds a position as Instructional Technology Coordinator in Arlington County Public Schools in Virginia, facilitating and leading technology integration to enhance teaching and learning for students. Her passion for innovation in education has made her one of the leaders in implementing new technologies in all curriculum areas internationally. Before commencing her position in Arlington County, she held the position of Director of Information Technology at Rock Creek International School in Washington, D.C. for 12 years. Educated in Sweden and the United States, she maintains an informed global perspective through a very active schedule of professional involvement. She has served on the European Council of International Schools Technology Committee for several years and as a Co-facilitator for ASCD’s Overseas and International School Network. She is also a proud member of the Apple Distinguished Educator community (Class of 2007), a vibrant community of innovators and educators dedicated to the enhancement of education through the integrated use of technology, and she has been recognized as a Smart Exemplary Educator. Camilla has presented at numerous national and international conferences on technology integration, foreign and immersion language learning, digital portfolio creation, multimedia integration, and the use of emergent and handheld technologies in instructional environments. She has presented and led workshops on technology integration at international conferences, including ISTE, VSTE, MICCA, ECIS and FETC. Camilla began her involvement with ISTE by participating in the development of the ISTE Standards for students, teachers, and administrators (formerly NETS). She has served as a past member of the ISTE Board of Directors and past president of ISTE’s Technology Coordinator’s Network (formerly SIGTC). She has also been integrally involved with the ISTE Annual Conference & Expo since 2003 in numerous capacities including Proposal Review Chair, 2009 Regional Program Chair in Washington D.C., and Program Advisor, and now serves as Program Director providing guidance and oversight for the entire conference program.


Laurence Baker

Bio: Larry Baker is an associate principal at Mercy High School in Michigan. An Apple Distinguished Educator, he presents on a variety of educational technology topics and blogs actively at Larry’s Opinion Drive-Thru. As an adjunct assistant professor at Madonna University, he teaches technology leadership graduate students. He recently co-authored iMercy, a multi-touch book available in the iTunes store, and has curated two open iTunes U courses: Becoming a Digital School Administrator and Create a Student Tech Team at Your School!


Geri Coats

Bio: Geri Coats currently teaches English on the Central Coast of CA. She has taught students at all levels of proficiency as well as taken on various leadership roles on her campus . As a former Department Chair she organized and facilitated communication for the largest core department on site and worked to support the students and staff in the classrooms. In addition, she held the role of Intervention Teacher on Special Assignments preparing/managing assessments, progress monitoring, placement, and organizational structures to benefit students. She is also a Google Certified Teacher and Trainer and a member of CUE and iSTE participating in various conferences and other Professional Development opportunities. She is passionate about technology integration recognizing the power of the tools available today and how they can have a positive impact on student learning. She works with teachers and students regularly to incorporate technology into their classrooms and work by focusing on desired learning outcome rather than newest fad in the ever changing technology world. Geri is also an active member of her community. She participates as a board member for the PTA of her two children’s elementary school and helps out where she can with other community efforts.


Cathleen Petty

Bio: Cathleen Petty has been teaching at Righetti High School, on the Central Coast of California, for the past 19 years. During her tenure at RHS, she has held leadership positions within her department, school and district. Ms. Petty is a past department chair, grant writer, co-writer for two Distinguished School applications, and previous member of the School Site Council, Shared Decision Making Council, and the District School Leadership Team. Within her role as DC, she helped to create an intervention team to correctly place and assess all students at the high school. She served as a TOSA (teacher on special assignment for intervention) for three years after the team was created. In addition to her leadership roles, Ms. Petty has been a class adviser for three years and also was a cheer coach/adviser for three years. In her English department, her teaching experience includes all levels of student ability, from struggling EL learners to advanced honor students. Ms. Petty’s latest project, along with her close colleague, Ms. Geri Coats, is organizing the first ever edcampSM (Santa Maria) this spring so that teachers in the Santa Maria Valley can experience great professional development for teachers by teachers.


Kristen Swanson

Bio: An educational leader and curriculum writer, Kristen is a renowned teacher, professional developer, writer, speaker, and researcher on impactful learning designs. She has worked directly under the tutelage of Dr. Grant Wiggins and authored both Professional Learning in the Digital Age (2013) and Unleashing Student Superpowers (2014). A co-founder of the Edcamp movement, Kristen is also passionate about effective teacher education. Kristen has a doctorate from Widener University in Educational Leadership.


Kristin Hokanson

Bio: Kristin is the ISTE 2015 Regional Program Chair, and has spent over 20 years as an elementary teacher, technology integration specialist and High School business teacher. As the Digital Learning Coach affiliated with the Media Education Lab and Professional Development specialist with Discovery Education’s Professional Development team, November Learning, & Inquiry Schools Kristin is passionate about helping students and teachers leverage web-based tools and emerging technologies to increase rigor and student engagement in the areas of constructivist teaching practices, project based learning, and media literacy.


Steve Hargadon

Bio: I am the founder and director of the Learning Revolution Project, the host of the Future of Education interview series, and founder and chair or co-chair of a number of annual worldwide virtual events, including the School Leadership Summit and the Global Education Conference, Library 2.0, the Future of Museums, Gaming in Education, and the Homeschool Conference. I pioneered the use of live virtual education conferences, and built the first modern social network (Classroom 2.0) for teachers in 2007. I supported and encouraged the development of thousands of other education networks, particularly for professional development.
